From time immemorial, the inhabitants of Spiš received many privileges from all the kings. It was 1343, the Hungarian king Ludovít the Great elevated Ľubovňa to a free royal city and granted it extensive privileges.
The most important privilege was the right to a free tap, this allowed the residents to finish wine, beer and burn schnapps. The people of Ľubovna could use the income from the tap right "for their own benefit". The walls of the old distillery under the Stará Ľubovňa castle remind us of the long tradition of this craft. The art of distilling, perfected here for centuries, is passed down from generation to generation. Macerate from selected fruit matures for 6 to 8 weeks in European oak barrels, which give it a specific color and taste.
